Born and raised in Oakland, California, Edgar Galvez is a Mexican American poet, educator, DJ, and multimedia artist whose work is deeply rooted in his community’s stories and struggles. Growing up in Oakland, he faced systemic disparities and personal challenges that shaped both his worldview and his artistry.
Through his writing and spoken word, Edgar learned to transform personal hardships into collective inspiration, forging genuine connections not only within his local community but reaching thousands online .
Edgar is the visionary behind Real Life Melodies, an organization dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices through poetry, music, workshops, and public programming. Like the melodies he curates, Edgar’s overarching mission is to uplift and create spaces where lived experiences ignite creativity, dialogue, and transformation.
OUR MISSION
Real Life Melodies is a creative platform rooted in poetry, music, and storytelling that amplifies the real life experiences of Black, Brown, and immigrant communities. Our mission is to create safe, expressive spaces where vulnerability is power, and shared stories become tools for healing, empowerment, and connection. Through workshops, performances, and collaborative programming, we inspire confidence, nurture creativity, and build a collective voice that challenges injustice and celebrates cultural identity.
